Festival of Tables
There has been a change in the date of the Festival of Tables Luncheon, that was originally planned for September 23, 2017. The new date for the luncheon will be Saturday, April 28, 2018. Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend, either as a table hostess or as a guest at someone’s table.
On September 24th, the Women’s Guild of Filling Homes, once again, hosted a beautiful luncheon celebration done in the tradition of tables... Like a dining room show room, the Filling Homes’ Therapy Center was transformed by 18 creatively dressed tables set with service for eight. The handiwork of 18 volunteer hostesses, each table displayed a different theme. From nostalgia to the whimsical, these tables were a sight to see! One hundred and ninety-two guests were treated to a lunch of pulled pork with pasta salad, mixed fruit, chips and spice cake as well as the comical, ventriloquy talents of Kathy Wilhelm, local entertainer.
The Festival of Tables has been an annual event of the Women’s Guild benefitting the residents and clients of Filling Homes for the past 19 years. Though the location has moved from the churches to the Filling Home, the format has worked well, and so it remains the same. The Guild provides the venue, the meal and the entertainment. The generous hostesses take it from there. They design the table in the theme of their own interest and then invite seven guests who each donate $15 for a seat at the table. All of the proceeds go to fund a project or a piece of equipment for Filling Homes that the Guild chooses to support.
Over the years, this special gift has gone to the purchase of adaptive equipment, resident property, and even a memory tree for the chapel, but as Filling Homes services have grown into the community, the Guild has also chosen to support the gardening and the art programs for adult day services. This year, the need was seen in the newest adult day service center, the Filling Homes Community Center.
Thank you to the youth from St Augustine and Liberty Center Schools, who assisted in serving the meal to our guests!
